One of the best parts of working downtown Twentynine Palms? Lunch is never a sad desk sandwich. When you work at Black Cactus, the whole town is your break room. Here's where we actually go — breakfast, lunch, dinner, and the after-work drink.
Breakfast: Cactus Trails Cafe
6341 Adobe Rd — up the street from us · Mornings 8–1:30, closed Mondays · cactustrailscafe.com
A classic desert diner with a Southwest twist. The order: biscuits & gravy, the Cactus Omelette with homemade salsa, and coffee that comes in big cups — regulars rave about it. Hearty portions, outdoor seating, and a prickly pear lemonade when the morning's already warm. It's the closest thing to a company cafeteria we have, and we mean that as a compliment.
Lunch: Kitchen in the Desert
6427 Mesquite Ave · Lunch & dinner · kitd29.com
Caribbean and New American cooking on a breezy patio, rated 4.7 stars. Jerk chicken, a smash burger, and falafel that regulars genuinely dream about — plus a cucumber cilantro lemonade and a bourbon chocolate pecan pie that one reviewer called the star of the show. Reservations are recommended, and the patio is the right call on a good-weather day.
Dinner: The Cactus
5670 Adobe Rd · Open late Friday & Saturday · cactus-twentynine-palms.jany.io
American and Greek food, pool tables, sports on TV, and — by its own proud claim — the coldest beer in 29 Palms. Burgers locals call the best in town, salmon tacos, lamb plates, and a gyro platter for the table. It's the easy team-dinner pick after a long workday.
After work: Más o Menos
66031 29 Palms Hwy, Joshua Tree · Coffee by day, cocktails by night · masomenosjt.com
The one stop outside town, about ten minutes west — worth it. A coffee shop by day that turns into a cocktail lounge at night: espresso martinis, a pineapple habanero margarita, live music, and a big outdoor patio. It's where the workday actually ends.
Work here, eat here
That's the rotation. And if you're visiting for the weekend rather than the workweek, our Things to Do in Twentynine Palms guide covers the rest of the town — trails, murals, museums, and the drive-in.
