Working remotely from Joshua Tree

You can work from the desert. You just need somewhere with reliable internet, a door that closes, and a chair that is not a hotel bed. That is twenty minutes from the park.

The problem with working from a rental

Most people who try to work a normal week from the high desert do it from a short-term rental. It works for about a day and a half. Then the internet drops during a call, or the only table is outside in ninety-degree heat, or there are four other people in the house on their own calls.

The desert is a good place to think and a difficult place to take a meeting. What is usually missing is not scenery — it is bandwidth, air conditioning and a door.

What a day here looks like

Come in when we open. Take a desk, or the quiet corner if you have calls stacked. Hi-speed internet, a kitchenette, a bathroom you do not share with a family of five. Work through the morning, drive into the park in the afternoon when the light gets good, come back and finish.

That is the actual reason people buy a day pass here. Not the desk. The day it makes possible.

Who this works for

  • Remote employees taking a week in the desert without burning PTO
  • Visitors with one immovable meeting — you need one reliable hour, not a whole office
  • Locals whose house has become the office and stopped being a house
  • Small teams doing a working trip rather than a holiday

Practical details

Where. 6259 Adobe Rd, Twentynine Palms — downtown, on the way to the park's north entrance rather than out of your way.

Getting here. Roughly two and a half hours from Los Angeles, one from Palm Springs. Most people drive; there is parking.

When to come. Spring and autumn are the good months for the park and for being outside at all. Summer is hot enough that an air-conditioned room stops being a preference. Winter mornings are cold and the afternoons are perfect.

What it costs. $25 for ninety minutes, $35 for the day, $150 for five flexible days. No membership, no card kept on file.

Staying longer than a day?

A week pass covers five flexible days for $150. Bringing a team, or want the room to yourselves? That is a retreat, and we can arrange lodging and food around it.
